As usual, I experimented first. After finishing the brown and white bag, I emailed a project proposal with a photo to Vogue. They liked it – sent me a contract and several skeins of Prism Windward yarn – and voilá!

The first version is on the left, in front of the Vogue Knitting Crochet Tote on the right.
Their photo looks much better, don’t you think?

I hope you’ll take a look and give this project – and some of the others – a try!
Just in time for summer!
Beautiful job! They look great. I’ve never done that type of crochet,is it very difficult?
Thanks! My web page at https://www.tapestrycrochet.com has free tutorials and projects to get you started!
I love your design. Both bags look beautiful. I bought the mag. just for your pattern. I’m a newbie at everything that has to do with yarn and loving every bit of it. I do have a question. What kind of yarn did you use on your first bag? I am having a hard time finding a cotton/rayon worsted yarn. There are only box type store around me(Michael’s ,A C Moore’s). I would order the Prism online but I going on vacation next week and want to start your pattern on the beach. :–). Thanks !

I tapestry crocheted the first bag with size 3 J&P Coats Royale Fashion crochet thread, but the fine thread made the stitches small, so the bag took forever to finish. I would recommend a heavier crochet thread or yarn – like the worsted weight I used. All cotton or a cotton and linen blend would be best to produce the type of thick fabric that is ideal for a bag.
WOW, That first one was done in Thread…….I can see using the O hook for that. Cotton would need a larger hook ?? or not ?
Thanks for your help.

I used a size 1 steel crochet hook with a handle (that I made) to crochet the beige tote. I crocheted the Vogue tote with a size 0 steel crochet hook – also with a handle.
I, too, just bought the back issue magazine for this pattern. I didn’t see any other patterns in that issue that I want to make, but I may be surprised. And this issue is paper, not digital. I am still fond of paper.
And at the risk of a no longer in print Bead and Tapestry Crochet book, I just bought it tonight new with Amazon prime.
Thankfully, I bought More Tapestry Crochet awhile back (and printed the errata), so now I’m set.
